These terms cover your use of Splitiz. By creating an account you agree to them.
Splitiz is operated from the United Kingdom. Contact: contact@splitiz.app
Splitiz helps groups record shared expenses and work out who owes what. It is a record-keeping tool.
This is the important part.
Splitiz is shared with other people, so some things are not allowed. Please do not:
If an account is used in any of these ways we may pause or close it. Where we can, we will tell you why first and give you the chance to put it right.
Anything you put into Splitiz stays yours. To run the service we need your permission to store it, copy it, back it up and show it to the people you have shared a trip with, so by uploading it you give us permission to do those things — for that purpose and no other.
We do not use what you upload for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not show it to anyone outside the trips you put it in. What happens to it if you close your account is set out in the Privacy Policy.
Splitiz calculates balances from what you and the people you share trips with enter. Currency conversions use the exchange rate saved on each expense, which may differ from the rate applied by a bank at the time of payment.
Please check the figures before paying anyone. We take care to get the arithmetic right, but we cannot be responsible for money you send on the basis of an incorrect entry.
Some features are free and others require a subscription. We may change which is which. Some features also carry fair-use limits, set out below.
The price, what it covers and how often you will be charged are shown before you pay. Payments are taken by our payment provider, not by us — we never see your card details.
Changing your mind. You would normally have 14 days to cancel something bought online and get your money back. Splitiz is digital content that starts working the moment you pay for it, and by buying it you ask us to start it straight away and accept that doing so ends that 14-day right. That does not affect anything else: if you were charged twice, or something does not work as described, write to us and we will put it right.
If we close an account for breaking these terms, we do not refund the remainder of a paid period.
Trips, people, expenses, splits, balances and settling up are unlimited on every plan.
Reading a receipt automatically carries an allowance:
| Plan | Receipts read automatically |
|---|---|
| Pro — 30-day pass, monthly or annual | 500 in any 30 days |
| Free accounts | 50 in any 30 days |
| Every plan | No more than 50 in any 24 hours |
These are rolling windows: the 30-day allowance counts the last 30 days at any moment, rather than resetting on the first of the month. While Splitiz is in beta, scanning is available to everyone on the free allowance above.
Attaching a receipt photo does not count against this allowance. Only reading one automatically does, and you can always add the items by hand.
Splitiz also limits how quickly receipts can be added. After a few in quick succession, a short delay is introduced between one receipt and the next.
This is designed to be invisible in normal use — emptying a wallet of a few receipts at the end of the day works exactly as you would expect. If you do hit it, Splitiz tells you and you can carry on shortly afterwards. Nothing is lost.
Attaching a receipt photo is not affected. Only reading one automatically counts against the allowance. Free accounts have their own daily limit on how many receipt photos they can upload, which is shown in the app.
If you reach an allowance we will tell you in the app. Scanning pauses until the allowance resets, or you can carry on adding items by hand — nothing is deleted, no expense is lost, and the rest of Splitiz keeps working normally. If you have a genuine reason to need more, write to us and we will sort something out.
Where an account is used in an automated or abusive way we may pause its ability to upload and analyse receipts. If that happens you will see a message in the app saying so, and the rest of your account — your trips, expenses, balances and existing receipts — is unaffected. Write to us and we will look at it. We may change any of the numbers on this page, and the change will be shown here.
Receipt scanning uses automated document recognition and will sometimes get things wrong. Always check the line items it produces before saving an expense.
Scanning is subject to the allowances in Fair use above.
Splitiz — the app, the name, the design and the code behind it — belongs to us. You are welcome to use it; you may not copy it, rebrand it or sell it on.
If you send us an idea or a suggestion, thank you: we may act on it without owing you anything for it. Please do not send us anything you need kept confidential.
We try to keep Splitiz running and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. Keep your own record of anything you cannot afford to lose.
You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or is used to abuse the service.
When an account is deleted, expenses on trips shared with other people are kept, because they are also those people's records. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for money you send to another person.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and significant changes will be announced in the app.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
